Neven Robinson Read, born 10Dec1903 at Cobar, NSW; Appt'd Cadet Midshipman PNF 01Jan1917 with Home Port at Sydney, NSW; to Midshipman 01Jan1921; loaned to RN for service and training 15Jan1921; to A/Sub Lieut 01May1923; to Sub Lieut 01Dec1923; to Lieut 01Sep1925; loan to RN for service and training 27Nov1931; to Lt/Cdr 01Sep1933; granted war service rank of Cdr 01Dec1944; trf to Emergency List and re-appt for temporary service 10Dec1948; Appt for temporary service terminated 20Mar1952; Trf to Retired List 21Mar1952; served at various postings and passed several training courses during his career and commanded a variety of ships from 1936 onwards, some of which included war-time commands on ships, HMAS Warrnambool (minesweeper) 28Mar1943 - 27Feb1944, HMAS Stuart (destroyer) 04Mar - 04May 1944, HMAS Gascoyne (frigate) 05May - 26Nov1944, HMAS Whyalla (minesweeper) 01Dec1944 - 22Jun1945, and HMAS Ballarat (minesweeper) 19Jun - Nov1945; one of his postings post war was as the District Naval Officer in charge of Port Adelaide, Sth Aust and his wife was president of the Royal Naval Friendly Union. Neven Robinson Read died 08Jan1977 at Henty, NSW.
