Charles Andrew Gardner, soldier, born 11Aug1876 at Taree, NSW; Enl.mid Jan1900 in Sydney from Permanent Military Forces and to camp in Randwick, Sydney, NSW; Emb.28Feb1900 as Batman, Regimental HQs NSW Citizen's Bushmen Contingent; Disemb.12Apr1900 at Beira and then train to Marandellas; to Bulawayo, Rhodesia 03May1900; Ops against Boers from late May1900 in Transvaal including Zeerust and Rustenburg; POW 22Jul1900 at Koster's River after heavy engagement aimed at clearing the road a few miles east of Eland's River; released 05Sep1900 and to duty in Pretoria area; to Pietersburg 18Apr1901; RTA 09May1901 from Cape Town; Disemb.11Jun1901 at Sydney and discharged from NSW Citizen Bushmen contingent on same day.
