Gordian III, (A.D. 238-244), AE sestertius, issued 240, Rome Mint, (14.22 g), obv. laureate bust to right of Gordian III, draped and cuirassed, around IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, rev. Gordian standing to left, sacrificing over tripod altar holding short sceptre, around PM TR P III COS PP, SC across, (S.8724, RIC 292a); others, (20.14, 17.41, 16.78, 14.71 g), rev. Gordian standing to right, holding transverse spear and globe, (S.8731, RIC 306a/307a) (4); others, (19.42, 19.37 g), rev. Apollo seated to left holding branch and resting left elbow on lyre, (S.8732, RIC 303a) (2); another, (21.91 g), rev. emperor seated left holding globe and sceptre, (S.-, RIC 231). Toning, good fine - very fine. (8)
