Centennial International Exhibition Melbourne, 1888, in silver (51mm) (C.1888/8), maker and designer details (Melbourne Mint - Stokes & Martin) not legible as die struck, edge inscribed, 'Religious Tract Society'. Hairlines, otherwise extremely fine.
The Religious Tract Society received their award in the class for printing and books. The Society was a British evangelical Christian organization founded in 1799. It had a branch in Victoria in Australia. It engaged in charity work as well operating as a commercial enterprise publishing books and periodicals for profit. In 1935 the Society merged with another similar group and became the United Society for Christian Literature.
