Gentleman's Gold Full Hunter Pocket Watch, by Rotherhams London, in 18ct gold, (tot wt 116.18 g), white dial with black Roman numerals and black hands, subsidiary sub dial with Arabic numerals, gold case hallmarked Birmingham, 1908, JR, case elaborately engraved HN on both sides, the inside engraved with the inscription "Presented To / Sergeant H.Neill / On His Leaving Werribee 18/8/09". Extremely fine with one small crack to enamel face, not tested for accuracy.

Sergeant H.Neill was a local policeman in Werribee in the early 20th century. He was involved in the great cream scandal at the Werribee Croquet Club in February 1909 when members were poisoned by rancid Victoria sandwiches. Sergeant Neill obtained samples for analysis by Dr Bull to determine the cause.
