Trio: 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, War Medal 1939-45. Medals unnamed and mounted for display. Fair - very fine.

Together with Merchant Navy lapel badge; part of original card mailing box addressed to Miss F.Atherton, 36 Fernhill Street, Liverpool 8, Lancs; condolence letters from Shaw, Saville & Albion Company (shipping line), dated 29th December 1942, and the Minister of War Transport, dated 21st December 1943; a Certified Extract from the List of the Crew of the 'Ceramic' listing Joseph Atherton as supposed drowned at sea in enemy action, plus two pages of information about the S.S.Ceramic. All housed in a wooden box.

Joseph Atherton, fireman, age 33yrs, born Liverpool. He was serving on the SS Ceramic when the ship was torpedoed by a German submarine U-515 on 06Dec1942 on a voyage from England to Cape Town.
