West Africa, Nigeria, Macgregor Laird, one eighth penny or 1/400th of a dollar, 1858, trial striking on a broad copper flan (37.5mm) with raised rims (2.5mm wide) (die III, early die stage) (Vice 9 trial not listed). Good very fine and excessively rare.
Ex Mark E.Freehill Collection, the first two acquired in the 1970s, the last ex W.J.Noble Sale 61B (lot 1683).
