Description

Sudanese helmet, 18th century, bowl-shaped construction in steel with a featured engraved brass top piece, with chain mail at the base, longer at the neck area, and with a very strong metal nose guard. Chain mail missing a few links and with oxidation due to age, otherwise good fine.

Tag with helmet reads:- 'Sudanese iron helmet & camail (sic) from Kitcheners victory at Obdurman (sic should be Omdurman) with full length padded coats of chain mail circa 1850.'
