Pair: Egypt Medal 1882-89 (undated reverse), - clasp - Suakin 1885; Khedive's Star 1884-86. 1226. Driv: I.Robertson. N.S.W.Arty: on first medal, note name initial error of I instead of J, second medal unnamed as issued. Named medal engraved. First medal with brooch mount marks on obverse and reverse, second medal cleaned at one time, otherwise fine.
Together with Lord Mayor's Soudan Medal, 1885 in silver (28mm) by Evan Jones (C.1885/10), scratched crudely on reverse are the initials, 'EJB'; also NSW Troops to Soudan medalets (2), one for Departure (C.1885/3) and the other for Return of (C.1885/2) N.S.W. Troops
1226 James Charles Robertson (AKA G.Robertson and John Charles Robertson), bootmaker, age 26, born 12Oct1858 at Hobart, Tasmania, the second son of James Charles Robertson and Elizabeth (nee Kirkwood) of Durham House, Campbell Street, Hobart; Enl.21Feb1885 in NSW Artillery; Emb.03Mar1885; Disembarked at Colombo sick on the return voyage to Australia and died of enteric fever on 31May1885, buried at Borella Cemetery, Colombo, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka); Death Notice placed by his sister, Mrs R.Milwain, North Shore, Sydney, NSW.
