Lord Mayor of Sydney Soudan Medal, 1885, in silver (28mm) (C.1885/10), reverse inscribed, '147/Corp.E.Heaton/N.S.W.Arty', 659 impressed on top edge at left of suspender. Planchet flaw at 3 o'clock on reverse, otherwise fine.

In September 1885, Corporal Edmund Heaton received a grant of £10 from the NSW Patriotic Fund set up at the Exhibition Building, Prince Alfred Park on 20 February 1885 to assist troops returning from the Soudan campaign. Corporal Heaton's claim was as a result of debility, following pneumonia, for some time after the return landing of the troops. He applied for a second grant but this was refused.
