Ancient British, North Thames Region, Andoco, Inscribed coins, Andoco Crescents Wreath type, (c.20-1 B.C.), gold quarter stater, (1.36 g), obv. crossed wreath motif with back-to-back crescents in centre, pellet between, ANDO in angles, rev. full bodied horse to left, with beaded mane, bucranium above, wheel below, (S.263, ABC 2718, Van A 1863, NT 7, BMC 2015-17, M 198, CCI 99.0637 [this coin]). Nice flan of good rose gold, sharp inscription, well struck horse, nearly extremely fine and very rare.

Found in Kent, January 1999.



It is unusual to find a gold quarter stater of Andoco in Kent as he was producing coins in Verlamion and possibly an affiliated mint to the northwest of the capital.
