Ancient British, North Thames Region, Tasciovanos, Uninscribed coins, Tasciovanos Quatrefoil type, (c.25 B.C.-12 A.D.), gold quarter stater, (1.35 g), obv. cruciform motif of four ridged leaves, teardrops in angles, back-to-back crescents at centre, rev. horse to right, horse's muzzle above, uncertain object below, rings and ringed-pellets around, (S.220, ABC 2583, Van A -, NT 7, BMC 1638-39, M -, CCI 08.9201 [this coin]). Nice gold, beautiful quatrefoil, bold horse, nearly extremely fine and extremely rare.

This is a superb example of one of Tasciovanos' rarer quarter staters. The type first came to light in the Essendon, Hertfordshire excavations of 1992/3 and only 15-20 coins are known.
