Ancient British, North Thames Region, Tasciovanos, Inscribed coins, Tasci Ricon type, (c.25 B.C.-10 A.D.), gold stater, (5.39 g), obv. TASCI RICON in rectangular box with concave sides on vertical wreath, rev. Cavalryman wearing chain-mail charging left, on reined horse and turning backwards, beaded elliptical shield in left hand, sword in right hand, pellet in beaded ring below, beaded border, (S.219, ABC 2580, Van A 1780-9 var, NT 7, BMC 1634-35, M 184). Attractive flan of nice gold, full inscription, bold cavalryman, nearly extremely fine and extremely rare, one of the finest known.

Rainer Kretz notes the extreme rarity of this piece by declaring there to be only one other example of these dies recorded. It is the only piece that fully displays the intricate reverse design with the fine details of the rider.
