Southern Britain, Inscribed issue, Atrebates and Regini, Verica Vine Leaf type, (c.10 - 40 A.D.), gold stater, (5.36 g), obv. central vine leaf, VI to left, R[I] to right, rev. warrior on horse to right holding shield, C behind, O above, F below, beaded border, (S.121, ABC 1193, BMC 1159-67, M 125, Van A 520, CCI 64.0043 [this coin]). Warm rose gold, beautiful vine leaf, whole horseman on reverse, nearly extremely fine and scarce.

This beautiful example of the Verica Vine Leaf gold stater is aesthetically exceptional but also carries a well documented pedigree. The Celtic Coin Index first registered this piece in 1964 (CCI 64.0043) and it is illustrated in Derek Allen and Professor Colin Haselgrove's important paper 'The gold coinage of Verica' published in Britannia (vol 10, 1979), plate II, no.53 (this coin), and listed on pages 6 and 11 (this coin).
