Ancient British, South of Thames, Belgae, Uninscribed coins, Hampshire Thunderbolt type, (c.55-45 B.C.), gold quarter stater, (1.36 g), obv. stylised boat with two standing figures, short dashes below, pellet daisy to left, rev. cruciform thunderbolt motif, various objects around, (S.46, ABC 767, Van A 143, BMC 129-36, M 40). Good gold, sharp thunderbolt, bold ornaments, extremely fine and scarce.

Chris Rudd notes that this extremely fine example is one of the best he has ever dealt with. It is unusual to display such a fine view of the various ornaments on the reverse whose meaning has yet to be properly explained.
