China, tea brick, with Chinese inscription below (237 x 187mm), probably issued earlier than under the People's Republic of China, c.1930s-1960, made as a common form of commodity based money used in international exchange illustrating it was distinct from trusting government as was the case with Chinese coins; obv. the design displays six square areas each with a dragon centre and a legend around in Chinese and English like earlier dollar coins, rev. plain, (237 x 187mm), (975 g), (cf.Mitchener 4144; cf.Opitz p.338-40). Very fine and rare.
