Alton Glenn Miller (1904-1944) was an American big band musician, arranger, composer, and bandleader in the swing era and the band led by him topped the record top sellers list from 1939 to 1943. He died when the USAAF plane he was on disappeared over the English Channel in bad weather on 15 December 1944 during his band's tour to entertain American troops in France.
