Group of Four: 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19; Coronation Medal 1953. 3/1201 Pte. A.B.Taylor. N.Z.E.F. on first three medals, last medal unnamed as issued. All named medals impressed. Very fine - extremely fine.
Together with swing mounted matching WWI trio of original miniatures and riband bar.
Albert Booth Taylor, student, born 05Jun1895 at Manchester, England; Enl.24Sep1915 as 3/1201 Pte in Medical Corps while living at Morningside, Auckland; previous service of four years with Senior Cadets at Auckland Grammar School; WIA at Gallipoli; Disch.11Oct1918.
Albert Booth Taylor was a colleague of J.R.R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings) at Oxford University studying English, graduating as a Rhodes Scholar in English language and literature. In 1920-21 he lectured in the same subject at Leeds and again in 1921-25 was lecturer at Armstrong College, Durham. From 1926-1957 he held the chair of English at the University of Tasmania and was appointed Professor Emeritus. His major work of scholarship was An Introduction to Medieval Romance - a survey of the main themes and characteristic styles of poetry in England and Europe.
