Group of Six: 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Pacific Star; War Medal 1939-45 with MID; Royal Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (GVIR) 1949-52. D/KX 71875 R.R.Tunnicliffe S.P.O. R.N. on first to fifth medals, KX 78175 R.R.Tunnicliffe S.P.O. H.M.S. Drake on last medal. Last medal has had name erased then re-impressed, all other medals impressed. Extremely fine.
Together with tally band HMS Jupiter, letter for MID, official condolence advice, photocopies, non Government issue POW medal unnamed.
Robert Richardson Tunnicliffe, Stoker Petty Officer R.N. MID LG 17Mar1942 'For Skill and enterprise in action against enemy submarines while serving on HMS Jupiter'. HMS Jupiter, a destroyer of 1,760 tons was sunk on 27Feb1942 by a torpedo in the Java Sea. It seems that Tunnicliffe was a survivor and died while a Prisoner of War, on 26Sep1944. His name is on the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
