Attica, Athens, (166-57 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.66 g), issued 153-152 B.C., (Thompson date) but probably 121-120 B.C. (revised chronology), by Karaichos, Ergokles and Kalliphon, and Dioph-, magistrates, obv. head of Athena Parthenos to right wearing triple-crested Athenian helmet, ornamented with Pegasus, within dotted border, rev. owl standing to right, head facing, in erect posture, on prostrate amphora, I on amphora, legend across **A QE*, to left **KA RIAC/ERGO/KLE/DIOF*, below to right a prow, below trace of ME, all within wreath, (cf.S.2555, cf.Thompson 736d (same obverse die), SNG Lockett 1927). Slightly off centred, otherwise nearly extremely fine and rare.
