Description

Septimius Severus, (A.D. 193-211), silver denarius, Laodicea mint, issued A.D. 198, (3.39 gm), obv. laureate head of Septimius Severus to right, around L SEPT SEV PERT AVG IMP X, rev. around VICT AVGG COS II P P, Victory advancing left, holding wreath and palm, (cf.S.6370, RIC 499, RSC 694); another A.D. 196 (3.24 gm), obv. similar but ..IMP VIII, rev. around HERCVLI DEGENS, Hercules standing half right resting on club, holding bow, lion's skin over arms, (cf.S.6284, RIC 79, RSC 210); another irregular barbarous type, issued A.D. 197 (2.88 gm), obv. similar with IMP VIIII, rev. emperor on horseback to right raising right hand, around degraded legend of ADVENTVI AVG [FELICISSIMO], (cf.S.6356, cf.RIC 74, cf.RSC 6). First two illustrated, last apparently unpublished, fine - very fine. (3)
