Royal National Lifeboat Institution, silver medal, first type obverse (GIVR) with second type suspension 'Dolphins', edge inscribed 'William Johnson Voted 4 Novr 1858'. Very fine.
William Johnson - 18 October 1858: The sloop 'Queen', with seven men on board, was wrecked off Yarmouth, Norfolk, during an easterly gale. Mr Johnson went out from the shore in the breeches buoy using lines that the crew had rigged, to ensure that they were secure, then, with four others, he took a boat to the vessel and rescued four of her seven man crew.
