2 Lieutenant Douglas Endell Wanklyn, age 24, barrister of Christchurch, attested 13Mar1915 at Canterbury; 6th Reinforcements, Canterbury Mounted Rifles; Emb.14Aug1915 from Wellington to Suez, Egypt; first known rank was Sgt Maj; appointed 2LT 11Jun1916; RTNZ as one of the complement of sick and wounded aboard the troopship Willochra (Evening Post, Vol XCI, Issue 108, 8 May 1916, p8); Emb.13Aug1917 from Wellington to Glasgow, Scotland with 29th Reinforcements, NZ Field Artillery; Disch.17Jul1918. Mentioned in Wisden Obituaries in 1954: Mr Douglas Endell Wanklyn who died in January 1954, aged 62, was a celebrated cricket administrator in NZ. Treasurer of the NZ Cricket Council in 1936, he was Chairman of the Management Committe for twelve years from 1937 and became a life member upon his retirement in 1950.
