Family Group: Father. Group of Five: 1939-45 Star; Pacific Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45. NX71696 D.H.Hannan. Impressed. Son. Pair: New South Wales Police Force Commissioner's Commendation for Courage; National Medal. The first unnamed as issued, Douglas Hamilton Hannan on the medal. Machine pantographed script. The first group very fine - extremely fine, the second uncirculated.

Together with framed award certificate for Commendation dated 16 December 1974, signed by F.J.Hanson, Commissioner of Police and also by recipient. The certificate reads,’Awarded to Constable 1st Class Douglas Hamilton Hannan of Phillip Street Police Station whose signature appears in the margin, in recognition of his courage and devotion to duty at Redfern on the 14th March, 1974 when accompanied by several other members of the force he approached a dark laneway in which an armed and intoxicated offender had taken refuge after discharging shots from a rifle in the direction of police. Despite the potential danger, he proceeded in support of his comrades within the offender’s field of fire and was present when the man was mortally wounded during an exchange of shots.’ The Commendation with ribbon is in a wall hanging display frame together with a miniature commendation with ribbon and a riband. The National Medal is also in a wall hanging display frame together with a miniature medal and riband. The WWII group of five is in a wall hanging display frame albeit the medals are in the incorrect order.
