V.W.F.Hicks O.B.E. I.P.Bengal on second medal, Lt V.W.F.Hicks Royal Irish Rgt on third medal, Lieut V.W.F.Hicks on fourth and fifth medals, Supt V.W.F.Hicks O.B.E. F. of M. Police on sixth medal, Pte V.W.F.Hicks N.Bengal M.Rif. A.F.I. on last medal. First, seventh and eight medals unnamed, second medal engraved, third medal renamed and engraved, fourth, fifth, sixth and ninth medals impressed. Very fine.
OBE: LG 01Jan1936 (General Citation) Additional Superintendent Chittagong Bengal. IPM: Gazette of India 14Jun1945 (General Citation). Inspector-General of Police Vernon William Farquharson Hicks was born in 1897 and joined the Indian Police after service with the Royal Irish Regiment in WWI; he was taken POW in March 1918 and repatriated the following November; he became an Assistant Superintendent in Dec 1919 and full Superintendent Aug 1929; OBE Jan 1935, on depn under Govt of India (rly bd) for employment as supt, watch and ward dept, EN Rly, May 1936 to Aug 1939; temp Dep Inspr-Gen Prisons Feb 1943 to Aug 1944.
