Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, fold over letter document (30.4cm x 22.2cm) on watermarked paper, with impressed arms seal at opening, written in Latin, to Fernando de Gonzaga, governor of the State of Milan, dated 8 August 1548 and signed by Carolus (Charles V), together with small colour photo of Charles V. Some small holes and light paper loss at edges, some light foxing, otherwise all details clear and bold, fine and scarce.

Together with Certificate of Authenticity of Todd Mueller Autographs Inc; payment invoice and packing list for purchase from Todd Mueller Autographs, sale ID 28569, Feb 2003, US$712. Charles V (1500-1558), Holy Roman Emperor and King of Spain 1516-1556. In the New World he oversaw the Spanish colonisation of the Americas including the conquest of the Aztec and Inca Empires.
