Ireland, proof Bank of Ireland six Shillings, 1804, obv. laureate draped bust of George III right, by Kuchler, stop after REX, top leaf points to the centre of E in DEI, rev. Hibernia seated, (S.6615). Nearly uncirculated, brilliant fields with minor surface marks and with a patchy pastel tone, rare.

Ex Spink & Son, London with their ticket. In 1804 the Bank of Ireland had small quantities of Spanish and Spanish American eight Reales or Dollars. These were overstruck as six shillings bank tokens. The Bank of England had similar coins, but in larger numbers which were struck into Five Shilling tokens. The Ireland silver was struck at a premium and produced at Matthew Boulton’s private mint at Soho in Birmingham.
