Gaius (Caligula), (A.D. 37-41), AE as, Rome mint, issued A.D. 37-38, (10.61 grams), obv. bare head of Caligula to left, around C CAESAR AVG GERMANICVS PON M TR POT, rev. VESTA above, Vesta seated to left, veiled and draped seated on ornamental throne, holding patera and transverse sceptre, S C across field, (S.1803, RIC 38, C.27, BMC 46). Dark brown patination, some surface roughness and pitting, otherwise very fine and scarce.
