Julius Caesar, (assassinated 44 B.C.), denarius, Rome mint, struck Feb. - March 44 B.C., (3.79 grams), obv. [CAESAR] DICT PERPETVO around Caesar's veiled head to right, rev. [P. SEP]VLLIVS MACER around, Venus standing left, holding Victory and sceptre resting on shield, (S.1414, Cr.480/13, RSC Julius Caesar 39, BMC 4173). Slighty porous flan, off centred on the obverse and reverse, otherwise good/fine and scarce.
This coin states that Caesar had been named dictator in perpetuity. He was assassinated within two months of its mintage.
