Description

Mysia, Pergamon, (c.123-104 B.C.), silver cistophoric tetradrachm, (12.65 grams), obv. Cista mystica with half opened lid from which a serpent issues left, the whole in wreath of ivy, rev. two coiled serpents with erect heads, between them a bow case ornamented with an Aplustra, and containing a string bow, in field to right a serpent entwined staff or thyrsos, **AS* above O, left **PERG*. (Kleiner 5 [MN23, p.79] dates series 123-104 B.C., SNG Cop.418-9 [Pl.11], SNG Von Aulock 7466, Pinder 93, Sear 3948 var.). Fine - very fine.
