The Australian Joint Stock Bank, Letter of Credit, London 30th November 1872, No.B312 crossed out and handwritten 1180, to The Australian Joint Stock Bank, Brisbane, Queensland, deposited one hundred and ninety four pounds 9/8 Sterling by Messrs Ward, Mills and Whitham at disposal of Miss F.H.O'Reilly, signed John Christie, manager, Ent'd B.Baxter, Accountant. Eight punched holes, very fine.
In 1861 six Irish Catholic Sisters of Mercy arrived in Brisbane and began developing what was to become the All Hallows Convent School offering 'young women a quality education in the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy'. The Letter of Credit above was in respect of a dividend from Consols, a type of Government dividend bearing bond issued by the Bank of England, due to one of the nuns at the convent, Sister Florence Honoria O'Reilly. With copies of other documents relating to the Consols for Miss F.H.O'Reilly.
