Description

Italy, Civic Administration of Novara, requisition order to Mr Cambieri by Prina, Mayor, Moribo, Administrator for supply of cart and four horses and supplies to transport war ammunition as requested by General Melas, dated 6 Feb 1800, printed document with arms at top, and all relevant areas hand written in ink. Very fine and rare.

General Melas was commander of the Austrian Army that led Napoleon into a trap at the Battle of Marengo, a few weeks after the date of this requisition document. Napoleon's troops were routed but a French division led by General Dessaix de Veygoux unexpectedly arrived and launched a counter attack that defeated the Austrians and thus freed Piedmont from occupation by the Austrians. Together with English translation of the Italian text document. Ex Mark Marshan Collection.
