The National Bank of Australasia, Melbourne, one pound, not dated (18- printed), not numbered, proof, stamped SPECIMEN, on card, no watermark, imprint of Perkins Bacon & Co. London Patented Hardened Steel Plate, vignette of woman holding cornucopia and shield to left, all within rectangular ornate spiral border which includes MELBOURNE at the sides and VICTORIA below, black on white, (Vort-Ronald, Type two, comments on bank and type p.175-183, similar note Spink Perkins Bacon Archive sale lot 682, and compare illustration for 683). Water stains on back, and few minor marks on front, otherwise good very fine and rare.
The Spink sale of the Perkins Bacon Archive collection contained many proof and specimen items of this Bank. However only one example was present of this type marked SPECIMEN, from Melbourne in that sale.
