Bank of New Zealand, Adelaide, South Australia, one pound, not dated, but May 19 -85 on counterfoil, (18- printed), numbered A/A 30000, specimen note, unsigned, perforated SPECIMEN B.W. & Co, LONDON, on paper with counterfoil, not watermarked, imprint of 'Bradbury Wilkinson & Co Engravers &c. London', vignette to left at top, Maori couple and New Zealand scene below of active volcano and kiwis in front, ornamental round tablet with 1 in corners and One in tablet between vignettes, all within rectangular ornate geometric border, states below, 'On Demand We promise to pay to the Bearer ONE POUND Sterling, Adelaide S.A., For the Bank of New Zealand', back with 1 POUND in rounded corner, rectangular block over the whole back, brown and black on white/blue and brown on white, (Vort-Ronald, Type three, comments on bank and type p.86-92, similar notes but hundred pounds illustrated Fig.90 [p.87]). About uncirculated and very rare.
Several proofs are known of the Bank of New Zealand (founded 1861), which were domiciled in Australian State capital cities. Only one circulated note exists from Australia and this comes from the New England Hoard (No.1 in hoard, and for the value of five pounds).
