MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.558 grams), Sidon mint, issued c.321-320 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, with serpent on helmet, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, N in left field, to right **[ALE]XANDP[OU]*, (cf.S.6702; Price 3500 (p.441), SNG BMC 3500, M.-, Anadol 448-9, Newell Sidon 36). Good very fine and a scarce mint.
