Description

Czech Republic, Moravia, Olmutz, Carl II of Liechtenstein (1664-1695), not dated issue, gold five ducat, (15.75 grams), obv. bust to right of Carl, rev. arms topped by crown and mitre, legend around, (KM.63 [p.74], F.60 [p.153]). Trace of mount on edge, otherwise good fine and very rare.

Olmutz was a bishopric in north-central Czechoslovakia which until 1640 was the recognised capital of Moravia. It obtained the right to mint coinage in 1141 and only in the 17th century was it extensively exploited.
