Australian International Exhibitions, Sydney 1879-80, Melbourne 1888-81, in bronze (76mm) by J.S.& A.B.Wyon, inscribed on reverse 'James Mirams M.P. / For / Services'. With case of issue. Good extremely fine.
James Mirams (1813-1916). Initially a dairy farmer he was then a school teacher, a bookseller, stationer, newsagent at Collingwood during 1863-74 and later became a financial promoter and speculator. He represented Collingwood and later Williamstown in the Legislative Assembly. Some overborrowing of funds whilst with the Premier Building Association eventually earned him a sentence of a years imprisonment in 1890. He was a Commissioner for the Melbourne International Exhibition in 1880, also on the Executive Committee of the Royal Commission for the Australian International Exhibitions.
