Victoria Industrial Society, 1st Prize, in gold (26mm, 12.5gms) with loop mount at top, obverse, aborigine with spear standing between a kangaroo and an emu, reverse, 1st prize / Awarded / by the / Victoria Industrial Society. This is the only known specimen and the earliest struck gold medal for Victoria. Fine and unique.
Walter E Roth wrote a series of articles on the Numismatic history of Australia in the Queenslander in 1895, in chapter VI he states that this medal was described in the 'Berliner Munzblatter' Nos 110, 111 where the date ascribed to it is 1851. In the Government Estimates 1852 p.21 - Industrial Society, in aid of Award of Prizes by the Society œ150.
