Lot 543
Sale 88 · Important Australian & World Coins, Medals & Banknotes, Dr John Chapman Collection
Description
Book printers plates, both sides of a one thousand pound note, Kell/Collins (1924) 2A 64703 (cf.R.70b), steel on wooden blocks, plate size (147mm x 100mm), cancelled with two diagonal lines each side. Very fine. (2)
Of uncertain origin and age (possibly c.1960's), probably used to print book plates. The size and cancellation lines would suggest that permission was obtained from the Reserve Bank of Australia to reproduce the note.
