Italy, Calabria, Tarentum (Taras), (450-440 B.C.), silver stater, (7.790 grams), obv. Taras astride a dolphin to right, both hands extended, to left reversed **TARAS*, below a large pecten, line border, rev. Male figure (Taras) naked to waste seated left, holding distaff and about to receive a small dolphin, (cf.S.329, Vl.181 [p.24, Pl.VI This Coin], HN [Rutter] 844 [p.94], Evans Oekist Staters Period II, F-B Group 1221, No. 158c [p.84 This Coin, obv. die V79, rev. die R112]). Fine and very rare.
