Italy, Calabria, Tarentum (Taras), (500-473 B.C., 490-480 B.C. F-B chronology), silver nomos or stater, (7.724 grams), obv. Taras to r., riding on dolphin's back with arm left extended, right behind holding cuttle fish or octapus, below TAP A **S*, rev. Sea horse (Hippocamp), to r., with curled wing, beneath a pecten of globular fabric, within circular border, (S.224, Vl.127 [p.17, Pl.V, these dies], HN [Rutter] 827 [p.93], Evans 2nd Group Hippocamp, F-B Group 2, No. 33f [p.52 This Coin, obv. die V14, rev. die R26], SNG ANS 838, SNG Cop.774). Nearly very fine and rare.
