China, Wang Mang Dynasty Type (A.D. 7-23), diameter 26 mm four characters around both sides, issued A.D. 7-14, obv. and rev. "Da Quan Wu Shi" (large coin fifty) (Hartill 9.8, [p.86] R9, Sch. 135, TFP 453) (illustrated); another similar diameter 31 mm., (90 degrees out of phase); Copper spade money, issued from A.D.14, with flat shoulder and foot, with legend "Huo Bu" (Money spade or The Pu Currency) (Hartill 9.30, [R12], Sch. 148, TFP 486); two character cash (5), issued from A.D. 14-22, "Huo Quan" (wealth money coin), diameter 23 mm, (Hartill 9.32, 9.33, 9.45, Sch. 149, 150, 151, 154, 165, TFP 490, 492, 493); others (2) plain both sides, 23 mm. and 24 mm.both with rims (Hartill -, Sch. 173, TFP -); Wu Zhu Coinage, post A.D.25, "Zao Bian" (Chiselled rim), diameter 17 mm., (Hartill 10.28 [R14], Sch. 306, TFP 582]. Very good - extremely fine. (11)
The second coin illustrated has the obverse and reverse on a thick flan showing a misalignment of obverse and reverse dies in the casting process both for the regular orientation upright or inverted. The coin had been considered as fusion of two individual issues but no division around the edge could be detected.
