China, Eastern Zhou (Chou) Dynasty, State of Yan, round cash with square hole, (300 - 220 B.C.), obv."Ming Hua" two characters either side, diameter 25-26 mm, (Hartill 6.21 [R11], Sch. 76, TFP 379, Pl.45); another obv. "Yi Hua" (one hua), diameter 20 mm, (Hartill 6.17 [R13], Sch. 77, TFP 382 Pl.45). First two very fine, both minor varieties, both very scarce, last with hole and very fine. (3)
One of the earlist cash type coins that continued until last century. The last coin was formerly read as "Yi Dao" as an equivalent to one knife money.
