Melbourne Amateur Regatta (Estabd. 1903), Stewards Challenge Cup prize medal in 18ct gold (17.4gms), 25mm, with hall marking and maker's name 'Bradshaw' on edge, ornate scroll ring top mounting, edge incribed 'D. Smith, Bow. Oct.22.1927'. Very fine and rare.

Presumably part of the Henley Regatta which has been run continuously by the Melbourne Amateur Regatta Association ('MARA') since 1904. The regatta has a long and glamorous tradition. In its early years and up to the second world war the regatta was, after the King's cup, the most important event on the Australian rowing calendar. After the second world war, the regatta continued to attract tens of thousands of spectators and provided evening entertainment on the Yarra riverbank. A series of challenge cups are awarded for the various events.
