Thomas Woolner, bronze cliche or electrotype cast portrait medallion (21.5cm) of Sir James Martin in round wooden frame (33cm) signed and dated 1854. the portrait in superb high relief, extremely fine and rare.

Ex L.R.Smith Collection. A similar example is in the Mitchell Library and is illustrated in Gullick's unpublished manuscript p.9c. Sir James Martin (1820-1886) politician and chief justice came to Sydney with his parents in 1821 from Cork in Ireland. He lived in Potts Point and attained status in government and the law. His name was later given to Martin Place, Sydney.
