Diocletian, (A.D. 284-305), silver argentius, Rome mint, issued A.D. c.295-7 (2.414 grams), obv. laureate head of Diocletian to right, around DIOCLET IANVS AVG, rev. around [VIRTVS] MILITVM, B in exergue, four princes sacrificing over tripod before gate of six turret enclosure, (cf.S.3505, RIC 40a, RSC.516g). Ragged edge, off centred on the reverse, otherwise nearly very fine and rare.

Ex Cornelius C. Vermeule III Collection, sold in Triton III (lot 1729 part) for the benefit of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts with his ticket.
