Plautilla, wife of Caracalla, (A.D. 202-205), AE as, Rome mint, issued A.D. 202-205 (12.162 grams), obv. draped bust of Plautilla to right, around [PLAV]TILLA AVGVSTA, rev. around VENVS VICT[RIX], SC across field, Venus standing to left holding apple and palm leaning on shield, to left Cupid, (S.1879, RIC 582, C.29). Weak in places, otherwise fine a very rare type.
Ex Serge Boutin, Paris December 21, 1951 (100 FFr.) and the Cornelius C. Vermeule III Collection, sold in Triton III (lot 1716 part) for the benefit of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts together with both tickets.
