M. Caecilius, Q.f. Q.n. Metellus, (127 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.806 grams), obv. Roma helmeted head right, [*] below chin, ROMA downwards behind, rev. Macedonian shield on which is an elephant's head, all within wreath, M.METELLVS Q.F. around, (S.139 [£55 VF], Cr.263/1b, Syd.480a). Even grey patina, very fine and scarce.

Ex Edward Gans, New York, c. 1955-6. Only 44 obverse dies was used for this coinage according to Crawford.
