Italy, Bruttium, Kaulonia (an early Achaean colony), (c.530-510 B.C.), silver stater, (7.860 grams), obv. Apollo naked walking to the right, holding a laurel branch in the right hand and bearing on his left arm a small running naked figure who also carries a branch in field, to left KAY**L* and to right a stag standing right looking back, rev. similar to obverse but incuse and reversed and without legend, (S.252 [£2500], SNG ANS 148, Noe 20b [This Coin], Basel [Sammlung Ludwig Collection] 190). Dark deep tone of good metal, with the edge a bit ragged, otherwise good very fine and very rare.

Ex Boston's Massachusetts Historical Society Collection (Noe 20b) and from the George Brauer Collection sold at the Nunismatic Fine Arts Sale No.21 (Fall) October 21, 1988 (lot 84 illustrated).
