Description

Russia, Paul I, silver Albertus rouble, 1796, (KM.Pn46, Sev.2381). Light steel blue patination, extremely fine and very scarce.

The issue was made to make the Russian rouble fit in with the international standard based on the Albertus thaler, the patagon issue of Albert of Austria minted in the Netherlands in the 17th century - the currency of the North sea trade. It is often considered a pattern but certainly a short lived issue.
